My students need to own a copy of the book they wrote and illustrated to encourage their efforts in writing.

My Students

"We did it!" That is the sound of pride in the voices of my students. They are hard-working, kind and considerate of others. They have used these character traits to work on an exciting writing and drawing project.

However, we are from a poor school district, with approximately 50% of our students receiving free and reduced lunches.

Despite the hardships and discouragement associated with poverty, my students are dedicated workers, and willing to go the extra mile to help others.

My Project

Students from low income families will have a chance to own the book they wrote, illustrated and had published. Each student took part in writing a story about an alien visiting their school.

They developed the story line and added illustrations, too.

They also took time to edit their writing and worked with another student to peer edit their work. They are very proud of all their hard work (as they should be) and owning their own book will encourage them to continue to work on their writing, editing, and illustrating skills. They are looking forward to owning their own book.
