I teach reading and writing to approximately 100, 5th grade students. Although we are not considered a Title One school, our district is undergoing some major budget issues. Therefore, making it difficult to purchase certain essential supplies needed for my classroom.

As a reading and writing teacher, I assign a variety of writing assignments. The majority of my students absolutely love to write! However, I do not have a set of dictionary/thesauruses in the classroom.

Nearly all of my students simply immerse themselves in their writing assignments. We go through the writing process beginning with brainstorming all the way through to the final step, which is publishing. However, in order for them to become better writers and enhance their vocabulary skills, they need dictionary/thesauruses. As an educator, I have very high expectations of my students, and I always encourage them to use strong, interesting, grabbing words in their writing. Nonetheless, for me to teach these skills, I need the proper supplies. Conversely, because of the budget issues, this is a little difficult to retrieve at this time.

Your help will ensure that my students will be able to write to their full potential, and hopefully, perhaps a few of them will be successful authors of great children's' books that will earn them the prestigious Newberry Honor Award.
