Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a Kindergarten teacher most of my students have never been to or experienced what school is. Our school is a low income school with 100% free and reduced breakfast and lunch. This does not stop our students from coming to school eager to learn and experience new things.
We want to make their first experiences memorable, loving and engaging.
In order to do so we need a variety of hands on materials, engaging books, manipulatives, writing resources, STEM activities and technology resources to foster and promote learning. My goal for every student in my classroom is to move to first grade with a love of learning.
My Project
The materials I am requesting are for the entire Kindergarten grade level at our school. Our students come to us with little or no school experience and need a lot of writing support. As teachers we model writing daily and our students practice writing every day. We need black markers for modeling our writing to students.
I am hoping these books will help inspire our students to become even better authors.
The books will allow students to see how they can write a story even if they cannot write letters yet or what to write about. I have noticed a lot of students continue to struggle with editing and revising their stories, these books will hopefully encourage and motivate students to take a look at their stories and see how they can change and improve their writing.
We are asking for cvc word building cards and letters to help students practice spelling some of the words they use most frequently. Then the students will then be able to transfer their learning to their daily writing. The resources I am requesting will help our students continue to grow and become outstanding authors.
