Every morning I greet my students with a smile and I love seeing instantly how excited they are to be at school. A child’s love of learning is one of my main goals for these children who are first starting school.
Kindergarten is the starting block of all students’ education.
Working in a district with a high rate of free and reduced lunches, a high rate of foster care and homeless youth, and a variety of disabilities provides challenges but nothing we can’t overcome. These challenges push me to be a better educator to meet all students needs and teach them each child has the opportunity to learn and love school. We work together to make each day in kindergarten better than the day before and the best year they will ever have.
My Project
Learning to write at an early age can be difficult for many students. For some students, they are just working on learning how to write very basic words and then we are encouraging them to turn those words into sentences. One way we can demonstrate this is through children's books. These books provide examples of how an author and illustrator can take pictures, words, and sentences and convey an idea to their readers. These children's books not only allow students to be activity engaged in their writing topic, but how to build their vocabulary as they are learning to write.
The ability to use real examples in relation to a writing topic, allows young students to personally relate to an idea or concept that is being taught.
