I teach reading and writing to 3rd and 4th grade students at an underprivileged school. This year, “balanced literacy” is in effect in my classroom. The students in my class are eager to learn and love this new curriculum. In order to teach the skills needed to achieve 3rd and 4th grade standards, mini lessons are essential at a meeting area. The use of a chalkboard is not encouraged. Therefore, a magnetic dry erase board would allow me to display charts and model writing at the meeting area. It also would allow me to be more organized. This easel would be put to good use this year and for years to come. The children enjoy sitting around the teacher and discussing various topics. It allows the students decide what interests them. It is a great way for children to learn to love to read and write.
