Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My kids are special because they belong to me. Once they entered my class they took over my heart. My heart is filled with sweet, artistic, loud, energetic, kind, and at times a bit dramatic third graders.
Sometimes it's hard to get my kids excited to learn when they come to school sad, hungry or mad at the world.
My kids worry about adult-level life problems. Instead of being exposed to trips to the zoo or a baseball game some of my kids wonder if they have a place to live, food to eat, and clothes that are clean and fit.
My Project
Writing could be a very nerve racking process for students. I'm trying to create a new engaging and exciting way to teach writing.
This project is about making the writing process fun and effective for all types of learners.
First I need materials to create engaging lessons. I want to create a Writing BOOT CAMP and have my students will start off as privates. This is the beginning process of writing called prewriting. Once the students brainstorm in the prewriting process they will go to our area marked by painters tape which is the exercise part of boot camp. 1 min drills will be used for exercising.
Next students will go to the water station for a small bottle of water and snacks. Once they get rejuvenated students will go to their barrack (desk) and start drafting (writing the the introduction, paragraphs and conclusion). Their desk will have a military tablecloths to make the ambiance fun.
Then students will get ready to revise. Once they're done I will put face war paint on their face and send my students off to the editing table. At the editing table students will work together to make corrections like capitalization, usage, punctuation and spelling. Here is where students will receive their dog tags.
Finally students will present their expository writings to the teacher. Once Writing BOOT CAMP is over students will receive a certificate of completion.
With this project my students will have a fun experience learning about the writing process. Teaching students how to write is empowering. Putting their thoughts on paper and publishing will help our students feel accomplished. Our fourth graders have a state writing test. That's why this project is important because I want to prepare my third graders and create a love of writing.
