This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are not energetic writers. They feel like they have been there and done that. I want to inspire them with writing their own manga comics.
They are struggling writers who have a hard time being inspired by personal narratives and nonfiction reports.
They love anime and superheroes. They were very excited when the new Diary of a Wimpy Kid came out. They are avid readers and I want them to be prolific writers.
My Project
Students will create their own Manga comic books that they can then publish and share with their friends. The great thing about comic books is that you don't have to write a mile of text but you still have all the elements of good writing. Students will be engaged not only in writing but also in developing characters. My students need a pencil sharpener, blank books and templates to create their own comic books.
This project will inspire students to take charge of their writing destinies by allowing them to create superheroes and then challenging them to create backstories and climatic situations.
