This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My name is Andrei Brownlee. I am a special education teacher at Milam Elementary. January will mark my 20th year teaching. I have taught special education since 2006. I have taught all grades and areas of special education including mild/moderate inclusion classes, as well as, self -contained emotionally disturbed classes.
I am a special education teacher at Milam Elementary School.
I have 13 special education students and I serve 2 students who have a 504 plan. They have disabilities ranging from ADHD, dyslexia, basic reading skills, and even emotionally disturbed.
All of my students are from single-parent households and they all receive free lunches. They are all from a very low socioeconomic background. They are underprivileged and I would love to have this project funded to give them an awesome classroom experience.
My Project
I want to prepare my children to be good writers. I plan to begin a writer's workshop. The writer's workshop will include mini-lessons taught as a whole group. Students will report during status of the class. This will be a short conference with me to review their writing. Next, the students will write and confer. This is where they meet with each other and critique each others work. The sharing phase is when all writing is complete and ready to be published.
We will need publishing equipment and materials to pre-write and do rough drafts.
Writing is one of the hardest skills to teach and I want them to be prepared for high school since they will all be on a regular diploma track. I will need pencils, paper, a printer, laptops, a cricuit machine, and an Ipad.
