This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are a highly diverse group of students in many areas. They are both ethnically and socioeconomically diverse. They are a curious group of students who also show diversity in their views, as well as their learning styles.
Our school thrives on honoring the individuality of each student and valuing what they bring to our school community.
Students are encouraged to be independent, critical thinkers and to learn more about the world around them through books, magazines, technology, and each other.
My Project
This year I plan to make sure every child has an opportunity to find their place during Writer's Workshop. I plan to use the Hokki Stools to help my students have a comfortable space to work. They will be able to wiggle and wobble while they think, create, and write amazing stories if that supports their learning style. They will also have a variety of books to choose from to publish their writing based on the style of stories they create both in class and outside of class.
We will have a variety of authors from popular children's books that will be visiting our school this year to discuss their writing and how they are inspired to create their stories.
I will be incorporating their strategies with my students as a way to continue to fuel their passion for writing. The materials I am requesting will help support their journey as a writer and give everyone an opportunity to find their place as a writer.
