Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I love how respectful, kind and hardworking my students are. These young leaders are committed to excellence in all that they do. Every day I'm honored to teach reading and writing to these amazing fifth graders. We meet in small groups to discuss reading responses from novels or passages, explore grammar content, understand the stages of the writing process and more. Together, we celebrate each others' successes and set our reading focus for each new week. They are dedicated to achieving their literacy and social/emotional goals. They are held accountable with a partner to ensure they're growing and doing their best. It fills my heart to hear them affirm one another after sharing their work. At the end of each semester, my brilliant students invite their families to hear them proudly read their published compositions.
My Project
My students need clipboards and white boards to use when they come to the carpet for our whole group reading time. While reading, we use comprehension tools like writing down our thoughts and questions, making connections and determining the important facts within the text. When I give my students their literature, they will use the clip boards to write on and also the white boards for their feedback. The rolling cart will be where we'll store our clip boards and white boards. It will be accessible to roll around the classroom and make it possible to use our supplies wherever we need them. The 2 classic novel sets will be used for students to read and study in book clubs! With your help, my goal is to empower my students to become stronger readers, writers and thinkers! Thank you.
