My students need a way to see their thoughts turned into actual words with a magnetic easel and 6 ruled chart tablets.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Do you remember how hard it is to write a story or a paper? Imagine being a seven or eight year old with a limited word bank to pull from. These resources will allow them to take part in the writing process. How a simple thought can lead to a story about what ever their imagination can dream up.
Each year I am blessed with a wonderful group of students.
They are eager and excited about learning. My students consist of ESL and inclusion students. I am lucky to have a co-teacher who also strives to make all of our lessons as hands on as possible. My school is a Title 1 school in Texas. Eighty percent of the students get free or reduced lunches.
The magnetic write and wipe easel will allow the students to practice creating words. My students can visually see how the words are formed. They can create word patterns and then record them in to their writing folders. This will help them get over the first road block in writing. Most students don't write because they are worried about their spelling. This will also be a great way for me to constantly check for understanding. That way I can pinpoint where the students might be struggling in (spelling, wording or ideas). The chart paper is where I write our morning message. The students take turn reading the message. The chart paper is also used to model writing. The students can see how to think through their writing. It also allows me to spotlight a student. Monday is usually when I call a student up to tell the class about their weekend. It allows the students to see how their words were turned into a story.
By funding this project you are helping my students be better writers.
They will be able to fully understand the power of words. My students can learn to fully express themselves through a story and in turn will also push them to be better readers.
