Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in a school in the Portland, Oregon area. Our school building is 100 years old! Our school community is very mobile. We have a 50% new student rate each year. Our families speak 26 different languages at home.
My Kindergartners are an amazing group of children.
Only about 3 come to school with any previous experience in a classroom. Most of them speak very little English. They are so excited to be in school. You can see it in their eyes when they walk into my classroom full of engaging, age appropriate activities and toys. They know there is something magical happening in my classroom.

We need to create a culture of ambitious writers.
By providing engaging materials to my young Kinders, we will inspire them to write, draw, and make really cool books, lists, and messages. Writing comes before reading so just think what kind of readers this will inspire!
Our writing cabbies will have magical markers- glitter, metallic, colorful and fancy edge scissors- for decorating books, lists, cards to name just a few of the engaging materials. Kinders will be able to write from their hearts.
