Great writers know that the process of writing can be challenging and involve many steps. The final step of the writing process-publishing-can be the most rewarding. I want my students to have a special place to publish the writing pieces they've created this year and KEEP them for years to come.
My students have come to really enjoy writing this year, a challenge many fourth graders encounter as they are faced with state writing tests.
Their value in writing means so much to me as real world writers and not just 'test writers' that their enjoyment and desire to become better writers is the true measure of their success. These 9 and 10 year-olds have great potential as writers and there are truly some who could be published authors one day.
My Project
With blank books my students can publish their favorite writing pieces from their year in fourth grade and include illustrations that will make their books complete. They can be real authors and share their masterpieces with family, friends and maybe even their own children someday.
Students will love personalizing their books with the 3-D letters to make the cover stand out and show their pride in their work. Parents will cherish this keepsake and look back fondly upon their child's writing admiring their growth and future potentials. Who knows? This experience may be the one that turns a child into a world famous author!
This project is a stepping stone in helping to set the foundation for young writers.
Students need to see the final products of writing to appreciate their hard work by admiring their success and feeling pride in their accomplishments. Please help me motivate my students to take a step in the 'write' direction.
