Write & Wipe & Write Again...Practice Makes Perfect
Help me give my students a class set of write & wipe boards along with board erasers so they can practice writing their letters, numbers, and sight words, while reducing paper cost and waste.
The majority of the students at our school live at or below the poverty level. Every student receives a free breakfast and lunch in order to ensure their basic needs are met so they can focus on learning. Additionally, basic school supplies, clothing, etc. are provided by school/district funds, teacher donations, and community donations.
Kindergarten is an exciting year filled with learning, growth, and development.
The students in my class are from a variety of demographics and socioeconomic backgrounds. Many are from our rural community, while others travel to school from nearby urban areas. Just like their socioeconomic backgrounds, their educational preparedness is equally varied. For many students, kindergarten is their first experience in a structured learning environment.
My Project
Whiteboards are used almost daily in our classroom to practice writing letters and numbers; building words; modeling math equations; and so much more. Whiteboards allow me to see exactly what they are doing, as well as provide an easy place for them to show and share their work. While they are costly, whiteboards are reusable for many years and reduce the cost and waste of paper. Our current whiteboards have been well-used and well-loved for many years (longer than I have been teaching) and are one-sided. The primary writing lines on the double-sided whiteboards will greatly help Kindergarten students as they are learning to write and develop their fine-motor skills. The blank side is perfect for modeling our math work (i.e. drawing a specific number of circles when we are learning to count). And, of course, the erasers are perfect for little hands eager to erase and try again. Practice does make perfect.
By donating to our project, you will impact the academic achievement of present and future Kindergartners, as well as reduce wasted time and resources.
