My students are 5th graders from low-income immigrant families. They are English Language Learners. All of our students qualify for the free meal program. We are a Title I school, as well as a Performance Improvement School. Many of my students are struggling to learn and understand English with no help from their parents. We have a lot of latch key kids that go home every day alone and sit and watch TV. Thus, my goal this school year is to give my students lots of opportunities to explore and create wonderful things with their creative minds. Students will focus on financial literacy. Your help is needed and you will be helping to provide my students with materials that will enhance their learning experience and help increase their financial literacy.
My Project
When school return from Covid-19 closures, I would love to welcome the students with a whiteboard table to work on. The requested dry erase table opens incredible possibilities for teaching and learning financial literacy in the classroom. It will help to create an environment that is interactive and engaging. The table will allow students to work collaborately and show their findings on the dry erase table. They will be able to directly work on the table and write budgets and findings. They can show their work, explain solutions, and help correct each other. What a great and fun way to learn. The charging stations will be used to charge the iPad that will be use for work and games. Students will learn about budget, balancing checkbooks, the stock market, and investing. At the end of the study, students will be able make a presentation about their findings, and increase their financial literacy ability levels each day when they work by themselves and with others. Let’s get back to school with a germ free table and a charging station!
