This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Help! Help! My English as a Second Language students in grades k-2 are growing faster than trees in a rain forest. Learning to read and write, especially for English Language Learners (ELLs), involves repetition. White boards are just one way to practice new vocabulary, produce less waste, yet greater minds.
My school is doing its best to "Go, Green" and I want to help. Rather than constantly using paper to practice new vocabulary and handwriting, white boards and markers would cut down on waste and give students a fun, hands-on way to use their new skills. As a specialist, I do not have access to as many materials as others. The availability of white boards would enhance learning for the students and contribute to saving the environment.
With a large white board and pocket chart, my students will be able to watch me model new strategies. This modeling will also involve following classroom directions which is important to reinforce with English Language Learners because it is a constant throughout their academic career. The individual white boards, markers, and erasers will give each student the opportunity to explore writing on his/her own. The organizer for the materials will keep them together so they can last longer. Having these materials will not only benefit the 55 students I service now, but also my future ELLs.
