Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students live in a low-income/high poverty, urban school district. They are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom, with challenges including emotional trauma, a high mobility rate, and many other special needs. Many of them are being raised in single parent households and 99% receive a free lunch and breakfast. My students are 70% Hispanic and 30% African-American. The majority of my students are far below the national and state standards in reading and math.
My Project
The dry erase boards, markers and erasers will help my students build their basic math skills. The students enjoy using the dry erase boards when working on math skills. Daily the students do mental math problems. They try to figure out the problem in their head to improve on basic addition, subtraction and multiplication skills then they write their answer on the white board to check their accuracy.
The white boards will surely improve math skills!
The students will also write more challenging problems on the board to figure out. This gives them an opportunity to work out problems with out always using pencil and paper. White boards will make math time fun!
