I have 24 amazing and busy first-grade kiddos this year. My kids love to learn and are hard workers. While we have everything we need, these supplies would help our classroom become a more comfortable and fun place to learn for my active class.
I teach in a Title I school, where 100% of our students receive free breakfast, lunch, and supper.
Despite the economic hardships of our community, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They come ready to learn each day with a great attitude. They support each other and look out for each other.
By offering new and different ways to learn, students will be more successful.
My Project
This incredible project will allow all three of our first grade classes to spread kindness throughout the community. One of the things that we work on in first grade is helping others. Right now, many people are feeling scared or stressed due to everything going on around us. I want my students to learn to be "helpers" during this time. I want them to see how their small acts of kindness can create a ripple of kindness around them.
Sending postcards allows students to practice their writing while also helping others.
We have practiced writing letters to many people, including our generous donors. This will be a great way to keep up on their writing skills. The fun thing about these postcards is that students get to decorate the front with their own art.
We will send two postcards home each week. One will be stamped and addressed to a local nursing home or hospital to spread cheer to those who can't have visitors or who are helping to keep us safe. The other will be for students to send to a friend or family member.
These postcards will be a great way for our first grade students to have a positive impact on our community during this tough time.
