Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students at my elementary school come from diverse backgrounds and lower levels of the socio-economic groups. We are a Title I school in California where over 75% of the students receive free lunch. I teach in a general ed class of kinder and 1st-grade students, with some of them being students with special needs. Our school population is about 450 students, with limited school funding. Students here have a great attendance rate and come to school, eager to learn. They have hardships at home but come to a school where it is safe and engaging.
A classroom is a second home to a child, where they come day after day to learn.
Students benefit from being comfortable in a welcoming classroom with supplies that engage learning.
My Project
I am requesting individual lined dry erase whiteboards for my kindergarten/first grade combo class. These boards will help students practice writing letters and sentences to improve their writing skills. Having these individual boards will also save on paper and keep the boredom of pencil and paper at a minimum.
Using dry erase boards on the carpet will help me conduct informal assessments on my students' progress on their academic skills in both writing and in math.
I am able to give immediate feedback to improve each child's weaknesses and strengths.
These dry erase boards will be used during phonics lessons, interactive writing activities, and during math problem solving time. Students will be able to share their work by displaying it to the class where students can easily read their work.
Classroom learning will be fun, interactive, and also reduce waste of paper.
