This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are a diverse group of first graders in a Title I school. They are each unique with different learning styles and interests. Despite their differences, they come to school each day with open minds and open hearts and are ready to tackle the day.
Their passion for learning and the desire to do well is what makes them so phenomenal.
My students are thinkers. They persevere and support each other when learning new concepts. They build each other up. They feel comfortable taking risks and making mistakes. These students have built relationships with not only me, but with each other. In our classroom, we are like a family. We laugh together, grow together, and they encourage each other to be the best version of themselves that they can be.
My Project
The most used item in my classroom is definitely our dry erase boards. We use them every single day. In order to continue whiteboard learning in whole group, small groups and in centers they need to be replaced.
Using dry erase boards instead of worksheets during work times helps my students focus.
My students love to learn on dry erase boards. They love to write words, complete math problems and quiz each other in centers. The problem is, our dry erase boards are 8 years old and they are falling apart. Some of the dry erase boards no longer erase and some are peeling so bad that they need to be thrown away. I'd love to start replacing them so that my students can continue to learn in this hands on, fun, and exciting way.
