Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come to school every day with a smile on their face and excitement to learn what we will be doing each day. We take time to care about one another before we start our day. We begin with a "Hello Circle." We take turns saying hello to one another, looking each other in the eyes, and saying one positive comment before moving on. This has built a wonderful community in our classroom.
Many of my students were affected by Hurricane Harvey.
They were displaced from their homes and live with relatives or in temporary living facilities. Our school is a Title I school in Porter, Texas, where 96% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. We recently received the No Excuses University recognition. We believe that every one of our students is college bound!
We regularly receive the perfect attendance award weekly. Our students want to be at school and are eager to learn more. They believe they will be successful one day, and so do I!
My Project
Kindergarten students love learning to write. They enjoy telling stories and it is wonderful to see them bring their stories to life in writing.
Providing a specific space for my students to create their stories would enable them to become more creative in the craft of writing.
Using a writing center will allow me to provide matierals such as various paper types, pens and pencils in a variety of colors, and tools to help them start their stories. Students will be able to have this space to create, continue work, edit, and publish their writing for others to read.
I have chosen this writing center to give a dedicated space in our classroom for young authors to bring their stories to life.
