Write like a Scientist

My students need writing materials to enhance their writing skills. This year our focus will be towards adding scientific skills in our students and my goal is to integrate this with their writing skills.

My Students

I currently teach at a Title I charter school. The socio-economic status of the area surrounding the school makes every student eligible for free lunch. We have worked really hard for the last years to keep parents satisfaction and provide students academic growth, that's our philosophy and goal. Our students first, no excuses, no exception.

My third and second graders are perseverant students.

Hard working, defiant of different and daily challenges and yet full of positive energy. Seventy percent of my third graders are ELL students or students with a second language. I like to challenge my students, whether to them become more independent readers or for them to work on establishing a higher writing stamina, and they are always up to the challenge. They are students who enjoy participating in discussions and always surprise you with clever ideas and engaging conversations.

My Project

This year, my students will find new goals along the way. Our main goal is to pass the FSA Writing and Reading. That’s why my focus is to get writing materials so we can work towards our goal. On the other hand, the school focus is to "Think like a scientist", to me they also need to write like scientists. They will learn to share their data and observations and publish their work like true scientists. I also asked for Reading materials related to Science; books about scientific topics or about scientists that made a difference in the world we know today. This will help us towards achiving our goal, of creating students passionated about Science and scientific ideas. Who knows? Maybe you help to create future scientists.
