My students need dry erase markers for individual work with small white boards. They also love using the ActivExpressions, which require batteries that need replacing!
My students love to solve problems. However, they are not as enthused if I tell them we are doing seat work. So when I get out the dry erase individual boards, they are renewed with excitement. I love seeing the work they are excited to do when working with small white boards in class.
My 7th graders are amazing kids.
They love a challenge and want to do well. My school is a public middle school with over 650 students grade 6-8. We have several students from disadvantaged homes and many that are working hard to achieve big goals.
My Project
With the dry erase markers, my students are able to individually work and solve problems as a small group, whole class or alone without the fear of being wrong. They are able to explore problems with an easy to clean surface, work problems and are excited to have materials that are different and NOT a pencil and paper to do math. They really like being able to use the ActivExpressions that go with our Promethean Board to take quizzes in class to practice for tests. It is like they have their own safe place to say their answer and not worry if they are wrong. It is a personal device that they can enter a solution and see if it is correct without ridicule from peers. As the teacher, I love seeing the engagement when kids use the white boards and Expressions. Their interest level increases and thus learning is improved.
This project will improve my classroom by supplying students with the necessary materials for learning.
Kids come to school with a desire to learn. Planning engaging lessons and activities makes that more likely. By giving each child access to materials that they can individually manipulate, I am setting them up to succeed by making the lesson accessible to all. Even if it is a simple thing like having their own marker or vote, I believe that ALL kids can learn and will be successful!
