I teach three sections of reading and social studies at a Title I school to 70 beautifully diverse, funny, energetic, and hardworking fourth graders. Their backgrounds and learning styles are unique, and I strive to create a classroom culture that stimulates success.
I want all of my students to have the opportunity to learn in a way that is comfortable and productive to their needs.
Our school motto is "Many Faces One Family." My classes include diverse behaviors, ethnicities, and socioeconomic backgrounds. We have several English-language learners with a handful of students new to the country this year, along with gifted and special needs ranging from ADHD to dyslexia to autism.
My Project
My classroom is finishing our 2nd year of 1:1 with iPad technology. This has provided our 4th grade students an enhanced learning environment at school and currently while they are working at home through distance learning. Because the iPads have been critical to their daily independent learning and future ready skills, we would love to provide them with a creativity tool to further their skill set.
Having 1:1 stylus pens will provide each of my students access to more precise drawing through various apps, as well as give them valuable handwriting practice on their iPad devices.
Currently, my students have been using Apple apps such as Pages and Keynote to create and collaborate daily. They often mention how they cannot add the precise details to their drawings and animations that they would like to because of their fingers "get in the way." I feel 1:1 stylus pens for our students are a perfect tool for adding details to their creations because of the size of the pen tip.
Also, writing is critical to education. A stylus pen for every student in my class will provide all students an opportunity to practice their handwriting skills, as well as, increase their focus and performance on writing tasks in our 21st Century classroom.
