My students need 20 Boogie Board LCD Writing Tablets to use for problem solving during math instruction as an alternative to basics of pencils and paper.
My students come from various backgrounds. 63% of our students are on free and reduced lunch. My classes this year celebrates inclusion. My classes includes General Education students and also students with disabilities, which include, Autism, ADD, ADHD, and OHI.
My students are very eager to learn and achieve the goals and expectations they have set for themselves this school year.
It is important to keep this enthusiasm and eagerness going especially during the very important educational years of their lives. Every child has capabilities, talents, and strengths; sometimes, all it takes is exposure or motivation. The students in my class strive for excellence. They all inherently care about one another and continually make an effort to improve in all aspects.
My Project
The use of interactive notebooks and basic paper and pencil are almost a daily activity in my classroom, especially in math. Using the workshop model in math, students use pencils and paper for guided practice and to record modeled strategies. This allows me to see exactly what they are doing, as well as provide an easy place for them to show and share their work. What becomes a problem is the fact that pencils get lost, erasers seem to disappear, and the notebooks slowly become unorganized from frequent use. When these issues happen, students then tend to distract other students because they are not focused on the task at hand because they are lacking instructional materials. This especially becomes a problem for my students with special needs. who have focusing issues and they miss important instruction from either myself or other students. By having LCD tablets, students will be able to avoid all of these problems and focus on increasing their learning!

Students will be able to simply focus on the academic material at hand, and not whether their materials are going to work or not. Plus in this technology literate world, any interaction with updated technology will increase their literacy as well as their desire to learn and use the new technology!
