Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Can I write on the board?" This is a question I have heard many times as a teacher. Students love to have opportunities to write on dry erase boards, and this can be used to motivate students to learn!
My students have a variety of disabilities ranging from learning disabilities to ADHD to autism, making it challenging for them to keep up with their peers academically.
My students also come from low-income families with limited access to resources at home. They often need extra encouragement to take risks in their learning and become motivated. Using dry erase boards can make learning fun for my students, leading to increased motivation to learn! In addition, some of my students have sensory needs, and writing on dry erase boards is easier for them than using paper and pencil. Not only that, but many of my students are more willing to erase and revise their work when it is on a dry erase board compared to paper, as writing on dry erase boards feels less permanent, and therefore less risky, than paper.
My Project
I would like to use these materials to increase student engagement in lessons throughout the day. When asking students to answer questions orally, after one student shares an answer, other students often stop thinking about the problem or question. I'd like to use the mini dry erase boards and markers to have students show their work and ensure all students are participating in class. For example, in math, I'd like to have each student solve problems on his/her dry erase board and then share the work with others. I also hope to use these dry erase boards, along with the lined magnetic board, to teach handwriting to kindergartners. The lines on the magnetic board will help students learn to form their letters properly.
The storage containers will support my students and me in keeping our classroom organized. It is important to have an organized learning environment, and this will also support my students in learning organizational skills themselves.
Your donation to this project will help motivate students to do their best work throughout the day!
It will also help make sure every student has a chance to show his/her thinking about a problem or question. This will help students reach their full learning potential and make learning fun!
