Have you ever watched wrestlers set-up or breakdown for a tournament? The set-up process begins with moving extremely heavy and cumbersome one-piece wrestling mats. The process assures teamwork but robs wrestlers of much energy that would be best used in competition.
Wrestling is a sport in our community that is vastly under-supported.
Other areas of the country are much more aware of what a great sport this is. Our school is in a community that is highly supportive of local football programs. Unfortunately, football season precedes wrestling which means much financial support has been given to the football program and wrestling struggles to fund its program.
My Project
The one piece of equipment that would most help our wrestlers is a flex-connect mat system: a mat that can be taken apart into three pieces and moved individually. Our wrestlers work very hard in this grueling sport. Unfortunately, on days of home tournaments, they must spend a great deal of energy struggling to move our heavy one-piece, cumbersome wrestling mat. They are tired before their matches even begin.
Our wrestlers are a very dedicated group of athletes.
They rarely get any recognition for being one of the hardest working bunch of athletes in our school. This mat would be a tremendous boost to their motivation and team pride! Plus, they will be able to save their energy for competition.
