I work with English Language Learners in a low socioeconomic community. Most students I work with live in a shared household where multiple families live together to reduce the cost of living. Many of my students are children of immigrant parents who have limited education.
I have a special bond with my students because they remind me of myself when I was their age.
I have traveled the road that they are on. I was once a student at our school many years ago. I love my school and have very fond memories of my childhood there. I want to provide those same wonderful moments for my students that I cherish now as their teacher.
I work in a wonderful community and am very proud to say that I am a product of the community in which I teach. My students love when I share stories about playing in the playground, walking through those same hallways as a kid.
Our school has purchased various online programs to use, in both reading and math. We recently attained Chromebooks for our students, but we were not given headphones to compliment those Chromebooks. The online programs our school purchased from time to time require students to listen to an explanation that requires some form of earphones.
We need headphones so that students can fully take advantage of online programs that we use.
Without headphones, students listen to the explanation using the volume on the Chromebook. In which case it is difficult for students to listen and it also distracts other students from their work.
