This year my students have been working very hard on their academics. Therefore, I like to have them create their own scrapbook that chronicles their life with me for 180 days. We don't always get to be creative with so many academic pressures. By creating a scrapbook it reminds me of why I teach.
I teach at a Title School and we have 75% of the students are on free or reduced breakfast/lunch.
I have 22 students in my classroom with many of their parents who struggle with finances, living conditions(moving often and/or poor conditions), and providing their children with basic needs. I have taught at this school for 13 years and have seen a lot of issues that no one should have to deal with. Therefore, I feel a scrapbook is an extra that many will treasure no matter how many times they move or what curve ball comes their way. They will always remember their 4th grade year and how awesome they are inside and out!
My Project
My 22 students will be be creating a scrapbook that has already been started from the time they entered my room in August of 2013. I collect work and take pictures of activities that we have done so far. During the month of May we begin to glue pictures on the colored paper, write, and place stickers on their work. It is fun to see their face as we begin to sequence their happenings in 4th grade. I believe all children need to feel they are special and what better way then a scrapbook. I treasure my daughter and son's scrapbook's from their early elementary years and they do too!
This is the 8th year I have created scrapbooks with my students.
Many parents have shared with me what a treasure it is for them too. This donation will help this year's students and many more to come. I believe my students will never forget this activity since it is so personal to them. Thank you for making my class feel special!
