Help me give my students books that they can see themselves. Regardless of what language you speak, books and stories connect all of us and help us to develop a love of reading and learning.

I am an ELL teacher at a low-income/ high poverty school district. Most of my students do not speak English at all and are new to the U.S. They range in grades from Kindergarten-5th grade. Reading is a way to unify their culture and help students to feel welcome into their new country.
Our classroom has some leveled readers for EL students, but no reading books in their native language.
My students are voracious readers of the few books that we have that are in English and Spanish. I want to have a library that students can borrow books and take home to support their reading literacy.
These books are much needed in my classroom library for my ELL students. They are in a new country and usually do not speak English. Having books that they can read and see themselves in, will help them to feel welcomed and that they belong in our class. It helps to honor their culture and also develop a love of reading. Books are a way to realize that we are all the same regardless of where you come from.
Having books that students can take home and parents can read with them will help build our school community and to build a partnership between our school and the child's home.
It will promote bonding of the parent and their child because the parent can read along with their child.
