Wow! Combining STEM Lab Materials with Reading Comprehension!
Help me give my students the ability to create and learn how to utilize hands-on technology in order to demonstrate an understanding of learning standards.
The students in our fifth grade cluster are curious and hard-working boys and girls that come from a hodgepodge of various backgrounds. Our school is a Title I school and is nestled in a high-poverty area of town where our students receive 100% lunches that are at no cost to the students and families.
Our school is a family that is focused on building relationships with our students and parents and providing the students with the necessary tools to become future leaders.
Many of our students do not have access to adequate technologies at home, but our school is determined to provide each student with equitable access to technology in order to assist them in becoming college and career ready adults.
My Project
The 21st century classroom no longer consists of rows of desks and rote memory lessons. Our children today need stimulation, consistent feedback, and a hands-on approach to learning. This can sometimes be difficult in the reading classroom. Although we collaborate in group work and ELA discussions, students rarely get an opportunity to develop digital literacy mastery during reading class.
It is my sincere goal to have students working hands-on with these STEM tools in order to assist them in becoming more digital literate while enhancing and empowering their learning of reading standards.
We will not just be sitting down reading, discussing, and taking assessments on books. Rather, we will be up working with circuit boards and the scratch program to demonstrate our understanding of critical comprehension standards.
