The students at our school live in an urban environment. Access to instrumental lessons and the opportunity to perform on these instruments are rare and not part of their home experience. The students truly enjoy learning to play musical instruments and it is a time to excel during the day.
We love the opportunity to offer a wide variety of academic and cultural experiences to our diverse and inclusive population.
We are a full inclusion K-8 school which means that our special needs students are in the regular classroom all day. They are not sent to separate classrooms. Further, we specialize in the inclusion of students who struggle specifically with behavioral issues as well as many other learning disabilities.
Many of our students come from unstable home environments and we try to provide a safe and stable place for them each day - a place that offers a sanctuary from past experiences and also an environment in which they can learn new concepts that will assist their growth as a member of the community at school, at home, and in their particular neighborhood.
My Project
Our music program continues to grow! Our younger students love to sit on the floor as they learn about music theory, dance around the room and share what they know about music.
With the addition of this new Magical Music Carpet, my students will be able to recognize various music symbols and words that they use everyday during music class.
This Magical Music Carpet will support their learning every day as they move about the music classroom through dance, song and other activities! This new carpet will help them to make their way through the new world of musical language and symbolism.
