Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are the ten colors of the Autism rainbow, each their own hue of personality. Some of them are nonverbal and are working on using sign language to communicate their wants and needs. The students come from different backgrounds and have different strengths, but they all are bright, energetic, and curious. Even on the challenging days, my students bring joy to me and my staff with their loving, youthful, and independent spirits.
My students are dynamic and sensitive.
Giving these students sensory input is essential to their classroom experience. My staff and I use sensory integration items to help the students be calm, focused, and comfortable so they can be ready to learn. We utilize therapeutic brushes, weighted blankets and vests, wiggle cushions, and sensory toys to aid students. It is wonderful to see a student smile and relax when they receive the special sensory attention they need.
My intention is to build an enriched environment to give my students a variety of play and sensory experiences. DonorsChoose can help with that!
My Project
Community helpers are such an important part of our everyday life, but for our kiddos it can sometimes be hard to know what each person does. They have to be exposed to things in a variety of ways, so having books and dress up clothes will help them be able to better identify, for example, the difference between a fire fighter and a police officer.
Having materials that familiarize our kiddos with what the helper looks like, what they do and why they are important will help them when they come in contact with community helpers in real life.
