Help me give my students these two sets of “Freak the Mighty” and “Max The Mighty” to help them develop reading skills while also learning about inclusion and diversity.

We have a 4th grade inclusion classroom that serves general and special education students. Reading levels therefore range from well-above grade level to beginning and even non-readers. We put a strong emphasis on developing basic reading skills and using text with technology has been an effective strategy for us. We celebrate all of our victories, large and small. The tactile handling of traditional books is very important to many of our students but, unfortunately, our class sets of books are old, worn-out, and have missing pages. Instilling a love for reading is our biggest challenge given the game-centered world our students live in.
Our 4th grade class has been using the same set of book series by Rodman Philbrick for almost ten years. All copies have been loved a lot but now suffer from torn and missing pages. This means that two or three students have to share a single copy. This is very difficult behaviorally at that age level and also denies students the chance to form an intimate bond with the book. This series not only develops reading skills but also teaches lessons about acceptance of those with disabilities. This is very important in a class that serves students who receive special education services. New sets would be a God-send! Your help would be appreciated by the world’s greatest 4th grade class!
