My Students

My students are often the ones everybody else has given up on. They are not the "A" students, sports stars or members of student government. I personally refer to them as the "Comeback Kids" .

They are the students who refuse to give up even when the walls are closing in.

For many of them school is the safest place they can be, a place where food can be had and hopefully a smile or two will come their way. But most important they want to learn and graduate, and I am the one who will coax, carry, threaten and drag to that graduation, if I have to; as many of them as I can every year.

An interactive board opens up possibilities for new instruction and the means to go worldwide. Many of my students only have internet capability at school and often lack technology skills. This will provide the means to keep up and move ahead. I am looking forward to their ideas. They are so excited we won the grant and they are already coming up with ideas.

My Project

An interactive board will allow my students the ability to visit other countries, states, people worldwide and interact on a global scale.

It will provide a platform for Skype and conferencing; for students to interact with children across the country.

The board will be their eyes and a connection.

It will provide a visual historical trail that can be followed worldwide. Whether we are studying Rome or modern day Greece pictures, videos, live chats can enhance the past and will portray the present for students to prepare for the future with this board. It will allow us to contact authors not only about their books but also for their advice about writing which does interest many students. The possibilities are endless. We hope to interact with our state and federal elected officials. Hopefully being able to hold live chats that introduce them to our Democracy and help them see the importance of voting and interacting with the community. The possibilities are endless and I hope just thinking of them will provide some excitement and buy in from my students.

Lastly seeing the new technology in my classroom matter..there are people who care. Struggling students need to have the ability to feel part of something positive, reflective and cutting edge. This interactive board will provide the means. I also would like to place magazine racks to display projects and ideas in different genres for students to explore and create formats they can use to show other students or use as an introduction to topics of interest. These will be on display as you enter the room. I am hoping they will generate conversations,
