My Students
Lockwood Primary Library serves around 400 PreK through second-grade students in a school district located just outside of Billings, Mt. The students come from a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds. The school is a Title I school with over 50% of the students receiving free or reduced-price breakfast and lunch. There is also a large percentage of students living in single-parent homes or living with other family members, such as with grandparents or in foster care.
Second-grade students at love to learn! They are inquisitive and consistently expand on what they are learning. When they have a project in class or their teacher reads them a book, they want to know more. They come to the library and ask for information on the subject their teacher just read about.
These students frequently use the library to seek out information. They also acquire the skills they will need throughout their lives.
My Project
Have you ever wondered about Stonehenge, the Eiffel Tower or Niagara Falls? My second grade students want to know more about the wonders of our world. They are eager to learn and write about these places. They will each pick a destination of their choice, complete research, and write a postcard to a family member or friend describing their project as if they had truly been there.
Help their mock "vacation" come to life by supporting this project.
This project will not only help 140+ students this year, it will continue to engage students in learning about new places for years to come.
