My Students

My students are a reflection of me and my curiosity and drive to explore the world around me. They have a strong sense of classroom community and a desire to use the 7 habits to become successful individuals in the future. These students come from varying socioeconomic homes, from single parents to successful business owners. We come from a small tight knit community, in northern Utah, where the housing industry is booming, leading to larger class sizes, that range anywhere from 30-38 students.

My Project

It has been said history often repeats itself. I feel that it is important for students to keep current on current events happening in the world and look for patterns from our world history curriculum through the reading of nonfiction text.

"When we help students become powerful readers of nonfiction, we help them become powerful learners" said Lucy Calkins.

She also said that, "Nonfiction reading skills are essential to students’ achievement in virtually every academic discipline.

Having these nonfiction magazines, TIME For Kids, in our classroom will not only help empower students to become powerful readers but also to learn about current history as it is happening.
