Our school is nestled in Kent , tucked away in a beautiful urban neighborhood full of so much life, character, history and language, as well as culture. As a result, this quaint little community has bred a generation of creative, inquisitive, sincere and thoughtful students.
Students seek equity, love, guidance and a safe haven to learn without prejudice.
They are eager to immerse themselves in an equitable learning environment in the hopes of one day overcoming adversity, while still remaining true to themselves in the process.
My Project
Geography helps us to understand the physical, cultural, political and economic characteristics of the world. Its also provides insight as to the interconnected relationship that we share as individuals as well as our interdependence on one another. Therefore, the ability to be able to read maps, interpret local and global information, and understand international networks for trade are but a few essential skills needed to deal with international matters as well as local ones.
Thus, the purchasing of global maps would ensure that the 4th graders at DES had the opportunity to learn geographic skills in observation, classification, organization, and map reading and interpretation.
With a large classroom map, the teacher is able to reference it during guided-instruction and students can reference it during independent practice. While sitting on the carpet, students can point out continents or large bodies of water to their classmates as they await the teachers instructions. Also, since they will frequently receive instruction on the carpet, they will also slowly start to recognize those major elements.
