My Students

My students love to read. They eagerly come to the library to learn something interesting, fun, and new. Lessons on using dictionaries, atlases, thesauri, and almanacs are part of their library class. However, funding for school libraries in California is limited at this time.

Our almanacs are old.

Since learning about basic reference tools is part of the curriculum, I request funding for thirty new almanacs for my students to use in research projects, for finding facts fast, and for learning to use indexes and tables of contents. I request funding for a class set of 2011 almanacs. Students will look up facts in teams, and while they have fun doing that will learn that an almanac is a book of facts.

My Project

My students will enjoy, learn, and share the information in these books while learning exactly what to expect from a reference book called an "Almanac". Current 2011 facts will provide authoritative information to replace our old almanacs and their out-of-date facts.

The World Almanac and Book of Facts 2011 contains thousands of facts that my students find fascinating.

It will be used to answer research as well as trivia questions—from history and sports to geography, pop culture, and much more.
