Help me give my students new furniture so we can work collaboratively solving math problems. We need small group tables and chairs to ensure all students have ample time with the teacher for math problem-solving, enrichment and remediation.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The 9th graders enter into thier high school experience ready to learn and succeed. The students I teach come from various elementary schools in West Philadelphia and other parts of the city.
Most people in general have a negative connotation when it comes to mathematics, hence most students do as well.
Subsequently, the ninth graders are required to take an Algebra state testing at the end of the year.
Students come in on various levels and are in need of different supports and differentiated lessons. So, helping out with this project will help support my students both in how they learn and how their learning is differentitated.
My Project
Workspace Reimagined will give my students engaging lessons in small group instruction. All students are not on the same level and learn differently, thus it is important to have space where small group instruction can take place. Moreover, in order to provide rigorous real-world math problems for all students, it is essential that all students are challenged at their level and given supports and scaffolding to ensure success for of the different learners in my class.
This furniture will allow my students to be engaged in mathematical problem-solving, enrichment activities and independent work all in one class period.
For example, students will be divided into flexible groups and rotate in and out of small group activities based on their needs. This project is essential to making blending learning and differentiation possible.
