My Students

My students are bright, curious dynamos who love learning about the world around them. A true community, my students actively support each other and love cheering for each other for each success or comforting each other over each stumble. I'm proud to have such a caring and compassionate class - they make me want to go above and beyond for them! And their kindness challenges me to be the same in my own life. I really do learn from my students every day!

My Project

Using a basal reading program meets the needs of some, but following the Calkins' Units of Study I can pinpoint specific needs in reading comprehension and language to help my students expand their depth of knowledge.

These materials will help me be a better literacy educator.

Students will benefit from reading instruction that is tied to writing instruction in a meaningful way and I will benefit by honing my practice and teaching skills. Being a demonstration teacher using the Units, I will be better able to collect data to determine the difference between basal teaching and using the Units of Study.
