This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Did you have art classes growing up? My students enjoy art but don't have a lot of the supplies they need to create works of art.
27 little second graders come to my class every day.
They enjoy coloring, listening to stories and learning about places like Africa. They attend a school that has no walls to separate the classes. Many of my students are bilingual. They are kind, funny and energetic.
My Project
Having collage materials like glitter shapes, wiggly eyes and collage boards will give my students the supplies they need to create things they can be proud of. The paint, paper and brushes will provide additional opportunities for students to express themselves in ways that aren't possible for them when writing, reading, or doing math. Having a cabinet will provide a place to store all the materials for easy access. It will also help students keep the materials organized.
This project is so important because my students don't have the art supplies needed to create collages, mother's day gifts, and other works of art.
They need to be able to create things they can proudly show to parents, friends, and relatives. Having these art supplies will help them appreciate other works of art around them.
