We are a Title I school in a city school district. In our public city school, many scholars are diverse and at-risk readers. Currently, the entire school population receives free breakfast and lunch. Many scholars are also homeless and from low income households. However, they are warm, loving and continually searching for ways to grow and become better each day. I am honored to teach such wonderful children.
I enjoy providing scholars a multitude of experiences to connect the curriculum and enhance their learning while allowing them to be creative and stimulate their curiosity.
My scholars are eager to learn, excel and connect the curriculum in the school library media center. As the school librarian, I am able to reach every student in the school. I have been teaching for 17 years, and I take a great deal of pride in my work. I strive to make learning fun and engaging as I have been focusing on transdisciplinary learning to help scholars have authentic and powerful learning experiences.
My Project
Crafted by Nick will provide a hands-on experience so all scholars can start and complete a project. He will give each child a piece of wood to turn into a cutting board. Children will learn about the life of the tree and sand, oil and refine a cutting board made out of wood from a fallen tree from their community.
Through hands-on learning in the library's makerspace, scholars will develop persistence and determination to overcome obstacles and complete something from start to finish.
The school does not provide many opportunities for creativity and this project will stimulate and foster innovation in its rarest form. Thank you for your time, consideration and support of Yonkers Public Schools' children. When you support public education, you are building the path towards a brighter and better future. God bless!
