My students need flexible seating options to enhance their learning. Some students benefit from moving their feet while others benefit from having something wiggly under them. This includes rocking chairs, fidget feet and a standing desk.
I have 21 of the sweetest most students in the world. My class is a diverse group of boys and girls with different learning styles and movement needs. Different interests and concerns. I've learned what makes them smile, and what doesn't. They are all so uniquely and wonderfully different.
One thing these students have in common though is they all come in smiling and eager to learn.
They are like little sponges! Their excitement for learning is infectious and makes me excited to come to school every single day. They have taught me so much this year and I hope they remember their first grade career with fond memories of laughing and learning.
My Project
During the day students are required to do work independently while I pull differentiated groups. Sometimes this independent work looks like reading, writing or researching on computers. In order for students to focus their attention on the learning task, they've gravitated towards a few seating options in our classroom.
This project will make a difference to provide all students the opportunity to optimize their learning.
With the funding of this project, I will be able to offer all students opportunities for flexible seating. Some students prefer to stand while others prefer to get small and cozy. Some students need to move their feet while others need to lay down. For this reason, I'm requesting a standing desk for those who need to stand to do their work. I'm requesting rocking chairs, sit fit cushions and donut seats for those students who seek input from unstable surfaces. And finally, the fidget feet will be perfect for students who need to tap their feet or move their legs while they work.
It is so essential for students to understand their learning needs and then have the options available at their fingertips. Funding this project will help me meet the needs of all my learners. Thank you for your consideration.
