Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students are creative, clever, and very spontaneous. They are energetic children who love independence and crave both routine and choice. Our students come to the classroom as all people, with a variety of strengths and challenges. They come from a variety of backgrounds and family structures. From the minute they walk in the door, Ms. C and I focus on their potential and growth. We certainly try our best to make sure their experience during the school day is safe, fun, and challenging. By doing this in a creative and positive way, we hope to inspire these learners to develop a love and passion for learning.
My Project
Our job as teachers isn't just to fill our students' heads with information and hope that they learn. Our role as educators it to understand how learning happens and help our students become the best learners they can be while also filling their heads with information.
An educational approach focused on the development of children’s executive functions – the ability to avoid distractions, focus attention, hold relevant information in working memory, and regulate impulsive behavior – improved academic learning.
Many students struggle with executive functions, but for students with learning disabilities, these deficits are the underlying cause of their struggle to learn. In order to help all of our students, we would like to add more games that promote working memory tasks to our classroom.
