I work in a Title I School District. A majority of my students come from poor economic backgrounds and all students receive free breakfast and lunch. They come from all walks of life and learn in totally different ways.
I want to make learning fun and engaging for them.
I also want to show them that they can be successful with the right tools. I had a previous project funded, and my students were amazed that people who didn't even know them would donate their hard-earned money to help them be successful.
I want to keep my students engaged in the art of reading. They need current, colorful texts to practice their reading and writing skills and Storyworks will help them do just that. My classroom needs 30 copies of the Storyworks magazine to help all students reach their full potential. This magazine is already differentiated, which will allow my struggling readers access to text on their level while also providing a challenge for all students.
Your donation will allow my students to practice their reading comprehension in an authentic way by providing them with text about current events and relevant fiction for them to sink their teeth into and practice those Common Core Standards.
They will be more confident in themselves as readers. Not only will this help them perform better on state tests, they will also become life-long readers which will help them be the leaders that our world needs.
