Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My seventh and eighth grade students come to school carrying piles of stress and the impact of tragedies on their shoulders. They face more troubles in their short lives than I would hope to face in a lifetime. Yet, despite their hardships, they continue to amaze me.

My students attend school in a building that is over 100 years old with a lack of resources; yet, they harness the potential to change the world.

They just need access to resources to reach and realize their full potential. Now, that is where amazing people like you come in to help us.

My Project

In order to promote small group learning and to increase student participation, I hope to incorporate this table into our daily learning. While at this table students will be able to work with the teacher or a “math master” (student who excels in math) to receive additional support in an area or concept of need. The table will allow students to do their work directly in front of them with ease. They can work together to solve the problems, look over each other’s work, and simply “wipe it away” when they are ready to move on to the next problem.

The time spent at this table will improve the students understanding of the skills and increase their confidence in the subject!
