Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are an enthusiastic group of learners who are thirsty for knowledge. A large percentage of our students are learning English as their second language so they need great modeling of reading behaviors and expert reading strategies that will make them successful.
Our little school is located very close to the U.S.-Mexican border.
Over 80% of our population receives free or reduced lunch which places extra challenges that require additional support for them to succeed. My students are little "sponges" who soak up every experience that we can provide for them.
My Project
This bunch of active, dedicated learners are thrilled when they've earned the opportunity to go to the treasure chest.
My students are filled with a hunger for knowledge, and a little reward for working hard is always a treat.
The second graders in my class earn points for attendance, completed work, participation, and exemplary citizenship. These little acknowledgements go a long way to motivate going that extra mile. School is a lot of work, but it should also be fun. The materials from this project will light up the faces of my students as they see their efforts are rewarded both intrinsically and extrinsically.
