Working and Traveling with Technology

Help me give my students an Oculus and a charging station to support social and emotional needs and provide a look at the world around us. In this day and age, the restrictions on field trips are never-ending.

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our Title I school is located in Southern California and is surrounded by three correctional facilities. This year, our school was funded, allowing us to give every student free breakfast and lunch. Our school's population is around four hundred students with various ethnic backgrounds.

Approximately fourteen percent of our school population is comprised of children who are in the foster care system.

We also have a large number of homeless families who live in motels or hotels and broken-down travel trailers that do not have running water or working electricity. Often, our students come to school without having had a warm meal or a consistent place to lay their heads and sleep.

My amazing class is full of energetic, sweet, and smart students in third through fifth grades. They work hard and they are excited and eager to learn. Our class has been designed as a mild to moderate special academic Instruction (SAI) setting that has students with disabilities ranging from autism to emotionally disturbed. We are a self-contained, full-day special needs class with children who love to use all different types of modalities to learn!

My Project

With the pandemic and students becoming sick often in our special needs classroom, an Oculus fits right in. The students could visit archeology sites, play math games, and play baseball all in the corner of the classroom.

I am requesting an Oculus and a charging station to support social and emotional needs and provide a look at the world around us.

We can go on amazing 3D virtual field trips and see things only our minds could imagine. Some of my students have extreme social and emotional needs, so I provide a structured recess in our classroom. The Oculus provides activities for them to do, such as exercise. I would love to have multiple of these at my fingertips, yet one at a time.
