Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are in need of every opportunity to be successful with the rich, authentic lessons they are provided each day. I teach third grade in an inner city school with a high poverty rate.
The students who are in my school are intelligent, creative and caring children who are in need of enriching experiences to enhance their education.
Many of these families are struggling to provide the basics for survival on a day-to-day basis. These loving parents and grandparents do not have the resources to provide the life-enriching experiences that so many of us take for granted. In addition, several of the children in my classroom are experiencing educational challenges due to a variety of factors, including learning disabilities, developmental delays and severe emotional issues due to circumstances beyond their control. Consequently, these children are struggling to keep up with their peers from more affluent communities. These little ones need our help and support.
My Project
Students feel motivated when they have control over their environment. Flexible seating encourages students to find their best spot to stay calm, focused and productive. It allows students to choose where they work and with whom. Flexible seating also allows them to change their location and positions as needed. Students are able to easily pair up, work in small groups, or discuss as a whole class. It is essential students work together to learn from one another, and I want to create a space that is comfortable because comfortable students are engaged students. Engaged students are successful and productive students.
